Aaagh! I've just received a birth certificate that I ordered mainly to get the maiden name of the mother. It was not for my direct descendent because she was born before 1837 so I ordered her younger brother Matthew's who was born in 1841.

Unfortunately it is really difficult to read. It states that the mother is Mary Norman formerly........... I just can't read the maiden name!

I've looked at all the other writing on the certifiacte to try and find similar letters but no joy!

Any ideas what else I can do to try and get the maiden name?

Thanks

Andrea

Oh Shirley, that would be fantastic!

I have scanned it but it is probably even more difficult to read on there!

If you wouldn't mind though, maybe a second pair of eyes......

How do I e--mail it to you?

Oh one more thing that I should have asked at the same time sorry!

Do you think the DOB is 22 September 1841? I'm really not very good at deciphering this old handwriting?

Hi,

Sorry for delay (I went off for my tea!)

Wow Moggie, where did you find that? I hadn't started looking for their marriage (which was why I wanted the cert) but kind of figured because it was before 1837, I would have to start looking at parish records? I've just had a look on the IGI but couldn't see the marriage you found?

That could well be them though as Yelling is very close. If I could find their birth records that would probably help. Will go off and have a look.

Thanks again for all your help, you are very kind to give up your time looking for my family! Really appreciate it.
