Had my GGGrandmothers 1924 marriage cert today. Born in Birmingham abt 1876, it states she is a widow, first married name Dovey, maiden name Dutton. Prob is I cannot find any trace of her 1st wedding to Mr Dovey. Have looked on ancestry, and free bmd, but no luck. Can anybody tell me where else to look? Would'nt you know it just been called into work so will check later-thanks |

There are several death registrations for Frederick Dutton between 1901 and 1925 ........ but this is the only one registered at Bromsgrove. |

Realy strange that there are 2 possible births for Sarah Ann Dovey in 1876 one in Aston and the other in Dudley |

Thanks for the replies. Info I have: The sarah ann dutton living with grandparents is the right one. Her Fathers name was George. Sometime before 1912 she married/changed her name to Dovey, and had children the latest being born was edward in march 1921. In 1924, at the age of 48, she "had" to get married to fredrick parkinson, and on this cert she is a widow. If there was child from this marriage I can't find it, I personally believe there may have been a "miss" or she was going through the change-sorry to be in delicate. As sarah parkinson she was still alive into the 1930s, as my mom brn 1928 knew granny sarah. Again thanks for the help |

Maybe she lived with Mr Dovey and didnt actually marry . In order to save face and protect her children reg Dovey she described herself as a widow when she married Frederick Parkinson |

Yes, I now believe she was just living with Mr Dovey, but to add to the confusion I have found, in the 1901 census, a Sarah Dovey, who roughly fits sarah dutton, but she is already a widow with an 8 yr old daughter. Can't find a sarah dutton or dovey in 1891. |

Or....there's this marriage, with a bride & a groom missing from the page - you could order the Sarah Dutton cert. |
