It looks to me like he might have fibbed on his second marriage, looking at the trend of ages. Maybe his second bride was younger and he didn't want to admit to being 40.

Do you have any BUTLERs as witnesses to Samuel's marriages?

Maybe they were siblings and finding THEIR birth origins may lead you to Samuel's.
If he was a Baptist, would there be records of his baptism at a date many years after birth....if those church records are available.

I do sympathise.
I have been chasing an elusive ancestor for many years now. Like your's mine was supposedly born in the 'teens of the 1800s.... but I can't find proof.

Could he possibly have been born with his mother's maiden name?

Kind Regards

If someone could give me a clue I would be greatfull.
I am trying to find a DOB for my GGG Grandfather. On all the census records his place of birth was Bramley Nr Leeds Yorkshire.

His name was Samuel Butler occupation slubber/overlooker. His father was Thomas Butler occupation clothier.
As for his DOB I have a few, which I have from census records and a second marriage cert
1841 25
1851 36
1854 36 (marriage in Tong same as first marriage 1835)
1861 42
1871 52 (in workhouse )
1881 62 (in workhouse)
1882 64 (died I think this is him)

I have what I think to be his death cert but it does not have a DOB on it. I have found both his wives christening (on IGI) both born Bramley no church given but my Samuel is not on IGI as far as I can see. One of his sons is buried Bramley Baptist church and another is at Calverley CE church. I would really like it if someone could help me as I have been stuck with this for years now and can not go further back until I have sorted this out. I have been on every resource on the computer and my cousin has been to Leeds archives for me , as I live in Canada but with the DOB he has not found anything so far PLEASE PLEASE CAN YOU HELP!!!
