Wish me luck. I have never defiantly found my ggg grandmother on the 1841 census. She is Ann Phillips brn 1827, christened 14th Sep. 1828 Willenhall, Stafford. After her christening, the first time I can pin her down is on the birth of her son Thomas in 1843, love child. I have now spent more then I should have on marriage certificates, Ann Phillips in Wolverhampton, in the hope of finding her that way. Lets hope oh doesn’t find out!

In the 1851 census is she the one living in Fenton?

I really have no idea, I think she got married before the 1851 census, after Thomas birth

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 18 Sep 2007 11:00

Do you know her married name? Have you found her on a later census?

Lynda Carol Report 18 Sep 2007 11:02

No, don't know her married name, thats why I have sent of for marriage certs for Ann Phillips. I have found her parents on every census, until their deaths, and have found her siblings, but not her

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 18 Sep 2007 11:05

When you are ordering marriage certificates, are you giving her father's name as a checking point? It will cost you less this way, as they won't send ones where the father is called something else.

Have you found her son Thomas in any census or do you think his name was changed when she married?

Yes, have put her Fathers name on

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 18 Sep 2007 11:09

In that case what makes you think that any you have bought are not the right one?

I have bought the certs yet, they are on order, but in the wolverhampton district there was a number of John Phillips with daughters called Ann

KathleenBell Report 18 Sep 2007 11:23

Oh, I see. However I don't really know how you will know which is yours without knowing more about the family.

Yes, I know thats why I am hoping that there is something on the cert that will confirm she is "mine"

Lynda if you post as much as you know someone may be able to help. What none of us want you to do is waste any more money.

Lynda Carol Report 18 Sep 2007 11:57

Yes, that is my Thomas. He was bought up by his uncle Henry, he put Henry down as his Father on his marriage cert. I have Thomas and his family on every census until his death, and then his wifes. It's Ann his mother I am having a prob with

There is always the possibility that Ann died before the 1851 census. That could be one explanation for finding everyone else but her.

Lynda I'm back now. I'm assuming that you have Thomas' birth cert, is it the one for Q2 1843 Wolverhampton.
Please can you let me know what's on there? An address would be useful if it's on there.

Sorry for late reply, got called into work. The address on Thomas's birth cert is Middle Row, presume that is in Willenhall

I managed to find Henry on the 1841 but Ann wasn't with him, neither was Henry living at the address where Thomas was born.
Unfortuntely the IGI has a gap in the christening dated between 1825 & 1829 which is probably when Ann was born.
