Ages were rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5 on the 1841 census so somebody aged 40-45 should have been registered as 40. Anyone under 15 should have the correct age.
However, some enumerators rounded the children and some gave the unrounded age for adults.

Wonder if this is William in 1851 (I do wonder if all the ages were rounded in 1841 - the children being 15, 10 and 5 seems a bit too neat). He was born in Smallwood and it's the right sort of area

Thanks Andy,
I think their son william should be on there though because he would only be about 15?
also i think william was born in about 1801 but are there sometimes mistakes?

the 1841 census is right, thats william, mary and their children amos, edward and william b.1836 (william is related to me)
Its the 1851 census that i think was wrong- because william was only 5 in 1841 so he would still be at home in 1851.
Am i just confusing everything?

ah i wonder if someone gave me the wrong 1851 census earlier on because the 1841 census shows william b.1801 and mary with their children amos, edward and william. astbury cheshire area.

Thats the one i was looking for for 1851 and then someone gave me the one with leeming in, and i did wonder why he wasnt on the 1841 census.

So i guess i need the right 1851 census now, if all that makes sense!!?? sorry girls.
