Can someone give me a clue pls as my brain is going round in circles.. On the census between 1871 - 1891 I have Hannah L Greengrass (b1837) living with her half /step sister Mary M Forde (b1829). Hannah's parents were Charles Greengrass & Sarah Bear. I have found an 1851 census entry for Mary Forde living with her father Francis Forde in Sussex. My question is....how can these 2 girls be step/half sisters ? Thx Sue |

Are you 100% sure the census entries are the same Mary Forde? |

Could Sarah Bear have been married to/living with Francis Forde before she married Charles Greengrass? |

There's a Jane Greengrass with the Fordes in 1851. So there's got to be a connection somewhere. It says she's a servant. I'd say she was probably housekeeping for the widowed Francis. Relatives did this all the time. |

On the image Francis's age is put quaintly as 'upwards of 70'. |

In 1861 Hannah is living with Mary A Bear b 1830 in Dover. Mary's occupation is given as 'fundholder'. |

I think this is Jane in 1841. Are these Greengrasses any connection with your family? |

On the 1851 info for Francis Forde it says he was born Iredie, Essex. Is it just me, or does it look more like 'East Indies'? |

Hi Lindy Lou....I took it to be East Indies and looks like he was a Civil service pensioner |
