I wish there was somewhere to put census strays too, as I've gathered various census images which include people unrelated to my family. Any suggestions anyone? George

I have an Anne Jones who witnessed a wedding in 1877. The bride was Alice Jones, so I'm curious to know if this was Alice's sister or mother, or just one of the many Joneses in this world.

I have another one for you guys: While searching for my Walton's on 1837online, I have printed off all the pages that I have looked at, even if it was the wrong one,(as I had to pay I printed), so what do I do with all these, and how do I tell people I have them? I have birth, marriages and deaths spanning a few years. Kim

Just a thought is there anyone out there that would be willing to maintain a web site dedicated to collecting all those images (bmd/census enumerator sheets etc.) that we amass in our research. Would it be possible or would it possibly be in breach of copyright. Dont look at me though, I am totaly internet useless. :) Lyn.

It would be great if there was a site or a section on GC where we could put the info. I can't do it though, as I don't know how. George

I only have two marriage certificates so far - just waiting for the third! - but the witnesses I have had so far are:- John DUGDALE and M D (Or Possibly "O") BRIEN - attending marriage of Richard Knowles and Mary Jane Quinn in 1901 - Lower Chapel Darwen, Lancashire. James BRAMLY and Margaret FURAY - attending marriage of Benjamin Fenton and Catherine Furay in 1899 - St Josephs Church Bolton Road, Darwen, Lancashire. I thought I had looked at witnesses before - but I don't remember ever seeing these names before, so guess what I am doing now??? Yep - going back to see if this lot fit in. I know Margaret Furay does but I don't know about the others. The idea about a website or some such to store "excess" info that may come in useful for someone is a great idea. Unfortunately I am also clueless on how to do such a thing so... can't help. But I do have a few sheets on disk that have contained my families that I would be willing to share. Could we also do it for the certificates we all have - I am sure there must be several thousand of those knocking around now!!

Lynda That website idea is really quite good. I'm not a copyright expert, but if ukbdm can have transcriptions of certificates then I don't see that transcriptions of census sheets and marriage witnesses should be a problem. Let's face it - you wouldn't charge for the info and the collection would be by no means complete.

George Report 30 Oct 2003 12:19

HI I checked on rootsweb and there is a Strays mailing list with not very many members. Also there is a section on rootsweb.com where you can apply for free website space. So is anyone willing to set it up? Don't look at me though! George
