I hadn't though of that. But now if I sent off for Josephs birth certificate it wouldn't have the fathers name on it or would it? If she couldn't prove it I suppose it wouldn't . Well im going to send for it you never know there is a suprise around every corner with my family. Well i'm off to bed it is 12.06 and I have work tomorrow. Thanks for your help Crista. Lorraine, I don't know how birth registrations worked back then, but perhaps Frederick was working/already in Worksop when Winifred went to register him and she couldn't prove she was married so she had to register him in her name. Crista

I don't know why either but you have helped me so much I am so thankful for all your help. This one has had me baffled for a couple of weeks and you have added a new twist to make it more interesting. Gosh what a lot to take in. I thought Esta futher up on the message board had found him for me as he was born in the same Area he was married but his dob is March 1900 which would make him to young to match the details you have found on the Census Wouldn't it?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU CRISTA Yipee It does sound like you have found the right person. I will send off for his Birth certificate. My mum says her grandfather died in 1933 age 35 and remembers him having a brother Uncle Peter. also My Grandmother was Mary Winifred maybe the puzzle is fitting into place......I would like to say a great big thank you for your TIME and HELP the same to everybody who has taken time out to help me. I have looked on the 1901 decoder but I dont know his mothers name or where he was born..............On his marriage certificate the information I have are as follows Joseph Loftus age 23 Married Mary Ann Spencer age 25 at Catherine Church of our Lady Immaculate district of Chester Le Street. Profession Colliery worker above surface. Fathers name Frederick Loftus coal Hewer Thanks for your help

If he was already 23 at the wedding, his birth year would be 1899, but he could be approaching his 24th birthday in 1922, in which case his birth year would be 1898. nell
