I know that when my mum has gone to the civic centre in Sunderland for a certificate, and theres been a discrepancy, either with a name or something else, theyve rung her to ask her who the father was or what the address was or something like that to make sure shes got the right cert. I know they dont do that at the GRO but local registrars offices are much more helpful(Well the ones Ive dealt with are anyway) Anna :-)

Why dont you ring Sunderland civic centre or post a letter to them and ask them to find the cert for you,If you give them a year, maybe that one where the names are spelled incorrectly, and mention their(John and Elizabeths) parents names, hopefully you should find out if its the correct one or not. I get most of my local certs from Sunderland instead of the GRO cos I just send my mum down to ask for them, then if they are busy, they will ring her when they have done the certs,or sometimes she gets them while she waits. I think your surname might be wrong... I found this marriage, and it was the only John Quinn and Elizabeth there was between 1881 and 1891... John Quinn & Elizabeth Waite Berwick Vol 10b Page 537 Marriage Dec 1882

They're both single in 1881, so they must've got married between the two censuses... if they /did/ get married....
