That's the image I've saved Jess. Do you think they are likely? Seems so to me. All the older children would have been old enough to be away from home by 1871 census. You really need one of the Mitchell childrens birth certificates to be sure of the father's name. Kath. x

I thought his father was William (wrong death found obviously, tied with the remarriage nicely -poo-) maybe it was David.... Jess x... head scratching.... kathleen - i haven't - up till now, although naughty I know, the family bible has been the font of all knowlege. My father is also pretty astute and ...well, no excuse really

Jess, got two children Jane (1859) and James (1857) living with a family in Cookham. Head-- David Mitchell (1820) Wife---Jara Mitchell plus numerous other children. Perhaps it was those other two and they left the children with this family for the day!!! Gloria

Jess, You say you BELIEVE the childrens father to be WILLIAM. Have you got at least one of the childrens birth certificates to confirm this? Kath. x

Thanks all, its one of those Pull-your -hair- out- moments! There am i happily trotting back : WILLIAM 1863, being my GGGrandfather. Cant find in 1881, pops up eventually because his mother has re-married, (she was widowed) Because i am strugling to find the marriage of Their father to jane i am losing the plot. Hoped someone would pop up with the answer to my dream/nightmare

Jess, There is Jane Mitchell married to a David Mitchell on the 1861 census living in Bray. Two youngest children are James and Jane. There are other children called Mitchell and the eldest child is called Bolton, suggesting that she was born before marriage or Jane was married previously. Don't know if these are yours or not - I know some of the facts don't add up. Kath. x
