Hi All, Would just like to say that when people ask for look ups please use your manners and say Thank You as it costs nothing and the people that are doing look ups do it for nothing. June

Yep, we do, do it to help people I mean I shall cease when my subcription to ancestry runs out. I enjoy doing it, but cant afford to renew to do it for other people, but dont mind getting my moneys worth out of my year

Good manners don't cost anything . My membership to Ancestry ran out a while ago and many of you have been so kind and helpful in doing look-ups for me. Shame on you people who can't be bothered to say thankyou!!! I have to say I was amazed when I first looked at the message boards at the lengths some of you go to, to help others. You all deserve free Genes membership I'd say!!!! and as I said before definately put on the Genes payroll!!!! all the best, Carol in very hot, sunny, unbearable Brighton!!!!!!!!

June, I always email people if they don't respond to any of the replies. Sometimes people never even check their threads. Crista

I only started to use the Boards when I came back after 6 months away (no electricity) and I couldn't believe how helpful total strangers were being. I made a point of checking the thread to see if I had been helped and would not dream of not saying a huge thank you to all the wonderful people that go out of their way to be helpful. Jacquie xxxx

It's not just GR. Other boards suffer from bad manners as well. I now adopt the baseball rule - 3 strikes and you're out. After the third look up with no acknowledgement then that's it.

Your faith in human nature is rewarded with all the lovely people on this site that help each other. Good manners are learnt from parents need I say more .

I agree, wholeheartedly. I'm always reading through the Tips and Records and I am absolutely amazed at how many people appear to think they are doing YOU a favour by asking for the lookups. Not only do I not see a thank you from them but I see continuous other requests all in the same tone, one after the other. I often wonder whether they ever spend any of their own cash. It's not very polite at all and I'm always surprised by all the very good natured people who still do the lookups regardless. Congratulations and thank you to all you guys who very kindly offer your time and effort for others. It is appreciated by the majority of members on here. Jan :-))

I agree it's a shame when some people put in so much effort out of goodwill, and then it is not acknowledged with a thank you. I am fairly new to the site. Soon after joining I received emails/enquiries from a couple of people which I answered promptly. Maybe my information was not what they were looking for, but I wouldn't know, as while they were quick to ask, they haven't responded. I don't think this is the same as those offering lookups though, as that requires a lot more effort to do. I find the boards hard to navigate compared to others I have been on. I'm also wary of clogging up the board and getting ticked off for it. So when I asked where I could post some names I had which others might like details of(unwanted certificates etc) , I emailed the responders personally to thank them rather than posting a separate message. was this wrong? I was so worried I would get told off by someone for posting in the wrong place that I emailed admin first to check.

Not only is it nice to get a thank you for doing a look up, it is also nice to know if you have found the right person or not.

And if someone asks you a question, don't just say, ''Thanks for that'' - Answer the blinkin' question (even if the answer's ''I don't know''), otherwise we can't do any more lol Sarah

Yes I agree, I have helped many people and quite a few were quick to thank me. But on occassions I have been totally ignored. If the information given was not what you were looking for, just a thankyou but not the right family would be enough. Regards Pam
