I've been trying to trace the later whereabouts of a Studwell Berry, who was born in Middleton Norfolk in 1854. His early profession was Ag. Lab, but moved on to be a Groom, and later a Domestic Servent. I've had the added bliss of him having an unusual name, as he was the only Studwell Berry on the 1881 Census Records, but after this, he has dissapeared! I have found no death record of him, and he is not in the 1891 Census. So What happened to him? Any idea's would be greatly appreicated, as I am still new to this.

He's probably been mistranscribed. Did he marry and have children? Thats the thing, I don't know what happened to him after 1881. Maybe abducted by aliens?

Unknown Report 15 Oct 2005 13:29

Could this be his marriage: Berry, Studwell Record Type: Marriages Quarter: September Year: 1893 District: Winslow County: Buckinghamshire Volume: 3a Page: 1171 [bride is either Fanny Benbow or Susan Ward] nell

Paul Report 15 Oct 2005 13:31

That is a possibilty, but what happened to him in the 1891 Census? If I can find out the age of Studwell Berry who married in 1893, it might proove if the is the same one.

Paul Report 15 Oct 2005 13:36

The also isn't a Studwell Berry in the 1901 Census, or a death of a Studwell Berry anywhere between 1881-1901. Is it possible he Emmigrated?

Ahha! So he did marry in 1893! Marked as Snidwell (Who'd name their child as that) oh well thanks! I still wonder where he was in 1891 though.

Berry, Hudwell Age: 37 Estimated birth year: abt 1854 Relation: Partner Gender: Male Where Born: Middleton, Norfolk Birth Country: England Civil parish: St Olave and St Thomas Ecclesiastical parish: St Olaves and St Thomas Town: London City County/Island: London

Hudwell? GEEZE! Cant they get his name right? =D

Horatia

Horatia Report 15 Oct 2005 14:05

It says Studwell Berry on the image. It has been mistranscribed! At least you know what happened to him now and whatever he was in hospital for couldn't have been serious because he is still alive in 1901! Cheers, Lynn

Never assume an unusual name will make it easier to find someone! As Fanny was 39 when they married its possible she had some children. I'm puzzled as to how he ended up in Winslow though. nell

Father is a genral labourer, will look a little earlier for you to see if she had siblings

So you think that Fanny had childrenw with a previous partner? Or with Studwell? I cant find any records of any children either way.

pAUL - nO I DONT THINK FANNY HAD CHILDREN BEFORE MARRIAGE, CENSUS SHOWS HER AT HOME 1861 UP TO 1891 PRE MARRIAGE, SO HAVE NO REASON AT ALL TO SUSPECT THAT sorry caps lock was on - wasn't shouting! jess

Paul

Paul Report 15 Oct 2005 14:19

Ah, it's a shame Studwell didnt seem to have any kids! I was really rooting on him!

Paul, clearly he wasn't a well stud (sorry, couldn't resist!) nell

Paul

Paul Report 15 Oct 2005 14:44

Well, we were discussing earlier that he was a Groom, so maybe he got kicked somewhere? That'll explain his time in hospital!

If the hospital records survive, you might find out. I think Guy's records are at Kings College London Archives. http://www.kcl.ac.uk/depsta/iss/archives/ nell
