On Kate`s marriage certificate Dec 12th 1898 her father is on the certificate as a furnace man, but her sister Eva, was a witness. Granddad, John Maudsley, had his step father as a witness, and he was George Massie, Baker. Kahtlyn

do you mean a short version like the ones you get after registing a child's birth? if so they should have full name (but not always) date of birth, date of registation, area registered, and sometimes informant

Here’s what Kathlyn sent to me:- Thanks for your quick response... I only have the shortened version of dads birth cert that he obtained in order to get a passport in 1964. 1) Does that mean that is a true copy of the original or 2) that was the normal practice to issue a shortened version if a copy was requested. If the answer is 2) then obtaining a full copy would help?? Here’s what I replied to her:- A full birth cert should have date of birth address fist name(s) of child name of father name and maiden name of mother occupation of father name of informant (usually mum or dad) date of registration If your dad sent for a BC to get a passport he might have requested a short one as this would have been cheaper! I'm not sure what info is on a short one, but obviously not all of the above! Do you have your father's birth certificate? This should show your grandad and grandma. You will then be able to find their marriage certificate and see the names of hteir fathers. If it is the same father in your grandad's BC you probably have the right one. You might then be able to find some of them on censuses, which would help to tie them together. Anne
