Been off the family research side until I started up again a week or so ago. Has the nature of the board changed.? Doesn,t seem to be too many tips any more. (and yes, I posted a tip some days ago). Not grumbling, just commenting. Merry Xmas to all . Tip posters or no. Happy days

Hi Harry, yes the good people of this site always have time to search for you its open 24 hours a day, sometimes you will find it goes really quiet so a thread will start up just to while away the boredom and before you know it everyone has added, I find that it makes people feel a little more like a friend if you have a light hearted banter and if you are going through a bad patch in your life sometimes it helps to tell 43million strangers rather than close family, but be warned though as a man you will not be allowed on the trip bieng planned for a bunch of us to old crones house, although you are welcome to comment...Have fun...MOE!x

Hi I think the problem is, if it's a problem, is that most questions have been answered!!! All you need to do now is to put your query in the search box and there is a wealth of information posted over the last few years. That's my first call of port now before I post anything on here. Kat PS Merry Christmas everybody :)))

The Bag Report 20 Dec 2005 18:07

Its just so slow at the moment - there ARE queries popping up on here - not many and certainly fewer tips. Little happening on records too With the war III breaking out on general think people are runing here for cover! Jess

An Olde Crone

An Olde Crone Report 20 Dec 2005 19:09

I agree, the boards have been very slow for the past few weeks, due, no doubt, to that C- thing. Personally, if its that which has stopped the inane questions, such as 'What is a bastard?' or 'Does anyone know where Manchester is?' then I'm very grateful! On the other hand, I do miss the really juicy threads we get on here from time to time, where we start with a seemingly unsolvable mystery, which gradually unravels to produce a fantastic result. Although I am usually unable to help with the unravelling, I read them avidly and cheer you all on. Olde Crone

Harry Report 20 Dec 2005 19:29

Too much of the 'old crone' in the replies. Is that masculine or feminine - being an old gentleman and therefore possibly qualifying ( and yes I know it,s not a tip) . Thanks for your interest. Happy days

Harry, I think you might find that because it is Christmas, many people are wrapping gifts, shopping and getting the house ready for guests. They may have had to put their Family History and tip-giving on hold for the duration of the Festive Season. Cheers, Horatia

Hi Harry i haven't been on the boards for a good few weeks due to being ill. i too noticed the same but put it down to it being Christmas and most tips have already been covered and all you have to do now is search the search box and most answers will be fount that way. we all welcome any types of threads going, whether your a person who adds to them, a person who just reads them or a person who starts them, either way we all get pleasure out of it someway. merry Christmas Harry and everyone :-)

Merry Report 20 Dec 2005 21:19

I would like to publically apologise for Olde Crone's C-mas party thread, which originally was all to do with the new GR survey about C-mas lunch.......and of course, should be on General!! If only I could MOVE it to General I would, but apart from copying all 20 pages of it, I don't know how it can be done?? If only I could say to GR ''Please could you move my thread??'', but I bet they would delete it, esp as I was critical of their survey thing in the first place :O(( Sorry everyone:O(( Merry

The Bag Report 20 Dec 2005 21:33

Harry? the thing is, if anyone has a legitimate tip or 'requests help' at the moment there are so many of us around just hanging about, their queries are answered 5 fold within seconds! Ultimately if something is posted and answered it will ebb away anyway, although not a lot moves off first page for hours at the moment.

I can vouch for that Jess. Merry's fingers must have gone from 0-60 in .00000001 of a second across her keyboard to answer my thread with as much detail as she did in the speed she did it! Very impressive, lol! Bev x

TinaTheCheshirePussyCat Report 20 Dec 2005 22:34

Merry, don't you DARE move the party thread to that other place. I don't go there any more. They upset me too much. I am too old and fragile to cope with the kind of 'discussion' that they seem to excel at. If you move, I shall refuse to blow up any balloons and shall sulk in a cave somewhere until 6th January! Tina PS And it's no good telling me that if I don't like a thread I should not read it. Despite my trying as hard as I can to be psychic, I find I have to read something before I know what it is going to say.

Harry, we have known one another for a while and are friends, I believe. I cannot type for long because of bruised fingers, but the Tips Board is a haven. Tina - ditto. :-) Joy

TinaTheCheshirePussyCat Report 20 Dec 2005 22:48

Joy, my friend, why are your poor little fingers bruised? Caught with your hand in the cookie jar again! What you need is a nice comforting hot water bottle and a nice comforting bottle of brandy to go with it. Tina PS Harry, that's a tip!
