Just to let you know, have heard back from the chap on the mailing list who was searching for this chap and he sends everyone his thanks. He was particularly thrilled with the 1841 extract. I should think so too! I was honest and told him it was a group effort by you lot. Brilliant work peeps, you never fail to amaze me.

Many thanks Lunar, I did find that one. If I was the guy looking for him, Id have to get that cert. I mean, 32 and a police officer and apparently dying in Essex rather than in Surrey where he was living - may be something very interesting there, eh.

Glitter and everyone, Im gobsmacked how brilliant you have all been, putting yourself out. I keep mailing this guy with all the info but not heard back yet. I shall be so unimpressed if he doesnt even thank you all! Merry, she has about three threads on the go now, not just last nights that you were on!

Bless her, I was feeling quite low last night (keep getting waves of missing my dear dad) and she really made me larf. Particularly the thought of her singing like Hilda Ogden. She left an urgent note for Judy this morning - so it may be her curlers have gone up in flames by now.

Oh, LOL Heather!!!! I am pretty computer illiterate too (luckily I have a hubby who can not only turn the PC on, but also knows all about it's ''innerds'' as well).....Do you think we should send out the fire brigade for Val?? After all, she might not only have her finger stuck, but also have been burning CD's! M.S. = Male Servant Mn. S. = Man Servant I believe..... Merry

Heather Report 1 Feb 2006 09:37

Elaine, not sure what that is, but if the one Merry found is right then it may be something Steward? I feel that Merrys is right as the son Brighton (isnt that fabulous) turns up in London as a groom to a couple who are from the area where no doubt dad was a farm bailiff or steward so must have known the employers. I cant get over how well you have all done and how kind you have been to look up this - it was an idle search for me whilst I waited for husband to finish writing up his surveys for me to type. What a brilliant result!!

Blimey, life aint fair is it. I post this casual query and you brilliant guys get all this info. Mine are never found! Thanks wonderful people. Merry, wonder if Val is sitting with her finger stuck in the slot?

Occupation for Dad in 1841 says: M. S. or could be Mn. S ???

Merry

Merry Report 1 Feb 2006 09:29

I'm back!! I wonder if there's an occupation for dad in 1841? This could be James (a widower now) in 1851: James Bishop abt 1796 Pakenham, Suffolk, England Stewart Fornham All Saints Suffolk I haven't posted the whole household, as there's rather a lot! (no family of James). He's a farm baliff. Merry

You brilliant people, I go away to pack hubbies lunch and do a quick few phone calls and you have achieved all this. I hope this chap is well pleased with your finds - it was just a casual question on a east anglia site I go to. I will pass on the info. Should be very grateful. I certainly am. Alice, I can see Brighton but no Romeo there. Ive looked at Brighton Bishops and theres loads of them. Who would have believed it???

Merry Report 1 Feb 2006 08:20

Not sure about this Robert?? He is Robert on the census page, but a couple of the others have slightly less ordinary names and the place of birth is similar....... 1861: Deborah Bishop abt 1846 Wissett, Suffolk, England Daughter Wissett Suffolk Joseph Bishop abt 1804 St Andrews, Suffolk, England Head Wissett Suffolk Priscilla Bishop abt 1838 Speschall, Suffolk, England Daughter Wissett Suffolk Robert Bishop abt 1843 Speschall, Suffolk, England Son Wissett Suffolk Sarah Bishop abt 1848 Wissett, Suffolk, England Daughter Wissett Suffolk Susan Bishop abt 1804 Rumburgh, Suffolk, England Wife Wissett Suffolk I don't have time to look for the above family at another date to see if, for instance, there is a Robert and a Romeo in 1871! School run awaits...... Merry

Heather Report 1 Feb 2006 07:59

I just found his death, poor devil only 32. But I am blowed if I can see him before 1871. Im wondering if dad was in the army and posted in Ireland or somewhere. Well, thanks for trying, it was for someone else who couldnt read his birthplace - ancestry guessed at something strange but I make it Stradishall from the image, which is a genuine place! Many thanks, as you were peeps. Better see hubby off now.
