Hi All, another challenge from the the new Cornishman, should be easy for most of you, looking for my Grandfather, I know his birthday , but what i am after is where he was born and if you have time, maybe his parents. his d.o.b was 07/03/1884 we think he might be from Okehampton Devon, His wife was Dorothy Cleave d.o.b 17/11/1903, any info appreciated, Regards Geoff Julyan.

Geoff, Don´t think you will get anything else until you get the birth certificate - which will show father´s first name and occupation. There´s nothing obvious on the 1901 census for him Elaine

Elaine, have found marriage cert, his fathers name was John Crocker, Ag Labourer, thats all still don't know where he is from.

Still cannot see anything on the census - sorry but really do think the birth certificate is the only option - we will then have father´s and mother´s name which should help. This hobby doesn´t come cheap!!!! Elaine

Geoff, We´re not miracle makers !! Really can´t see what else we can do to help. I cannot find Edwin on the 1901 census. Very difficult to trace John Crocker (father - ag. lab) without further info. We have found a possible birth in 1894 and I think your only option is to get the birth certificate - at least with the names of both parents it might be easier to find them on the census. When you order birth certificate specify father´s name as John. Regards Elaine

Elaine, this will me make me sound really thickkkkk, where would i order this cert from, i'm supposing birth, deaths, marriage registry ?. To everyone else go on laugh at my expense i have broad shoulders, ('The lights on, but no one is home' ).

Again, Geoff, I feel the online parish clerk (OPC) could be of great help to you - the OPCs do this on a voluntary basis: gather as much resources as they can, transcribe parish registers etc. Devon have them as well as Cornwall. Have you tried sites such as GENUKI for information about the parishes? Certificates can be obtained from the General Register Office or from the register office for the area, £7. Joy
