Chrisrtine I am not sure whether the Holsworthy area would be included in the Exeter, or N Devon RO, or both. I was really trying to make the point that the Plymouth/Devonport/Stonehouse/that part of Cornwall that used to be Devon area always considered itself outside the main Devon County and has always been interested in its own history. Coming from Plymouth myself originally I have found that the info I want around Plymouth I have always found at Coxside or the main Library in Tavistock Road.I suppose being the only major City in the area it was inevitable that it would need its own record office. As I also live SW Herts I hear what you are saying about a long trek down. Many records were destroyed in both Plymouth and Exeter during the war and Exeter did not have half of the items that I was interested in for Plymouth. Exeter have no Evacuation Records for starters as I rang to find out. Plymouth Library hold some records on Evacuees during Second W War. Plymouth Poll books are in the Plymouth main library in Tavistock Road. So you do need to know what you are looking for. Much schools information is also at the library rather than Coxside. Coxside is good for the Parish Records but the Library is better for 1900 records onwards. Before you go give all three Record Offices a ring to determine if they each hold the records that you require . Hope this explains a little better. Janet
