The marriage cert would give both of their fathers names and occupations and help you go back further on the paternal sides of both of them. There are too many Mary Ann Longs in a reasonable time span and area for you to guess at a birth reference. I would personally get that marriage certificate which you know is THE RIGHT Mary Ann and that will lead you to her birth certificate by matching the father up in a census with his name and occupation. It will be cheaper in the long run and more accurate than any other way plus you get the bonus of both dads and the witnesses and the addresses they were at when they married. You could waste a lot of money trying to guess at which birth reference she is.

yes i now realise that the ages are not also accuarate- but i just need the birth cert purley for the info about the mother ie maiden name which isnt offered on the marriage cert

Heather

So this is their marriage: Marriages Dec 1890 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LONG Mary Ann Kensington 1a 200 Pethers George Kensington 1a 200 Dont always believe ages on census, they can vary by several years depending on who is doing the answering and how much they want to knock off or add on to their ages.

sorry- even i get confused by what im saying. i know her approx birth year because of looking at the 1901 census for which i know for certain that its her. it stated she was 33 when the census was taken

The marriage cert will give you their father's names so you will have a better idea of their families on the census records. Heather

Liz, sorry Im a bit confused about what you already have and what you are looking for please? This is the only Mary A Long I can see in 1871 - born Paddington, is this the information you have, or where did you get that year of birth from for her please? What solid evidence do you already have? no it appears on birth cert. perhaps you should order marriage cert first with fathers name on and then you can find them in earlier censuses and then look at siblings etc.

yes i have hazard a guess about who their parents were etc from the census' but i need to be sure. yes i have also considered a marriage cert since they were married, but i want to find out the mothers maiden which to my knowledge doesn't appear on that cert?

can you not find them on censuses? Do you know what their fathers/parents are called? Are you wanting the birth to try and find the mothers maiden name?

Heather

Heather Report 11 Mar 2006 23:32

Were these two a married couple? If so, do you have the marriage certificate? Heather

yeah this is the point where it gets a bit tricky isn't it! hmm about the name pethers, if it was peters i think iam going off on completly the wrong track. its just frustrating when you really want to find something but tis not there

Depends on what regestration district etc. She might not have been born in [paddington, but inbetween there and stepney, (i don;t know how far they are apart)

*~Lizbeth~* Report 11 Mar 2006 23:25

mary ann long from stepney sounds promising, would it still be accurate even though the location isnt 100% ? i wouldn't want to get the wrong cert

well mary ann long was born in paddington around the year 1868. george pethers was born around the year 1867. i have looked mainly on the ancestry bmd but also 1837 online. also i searched around the year i thought they were born, alas nothing!
