It sounded to me like her father may have been in the forces too - perhaps the navy. I don't know of any sites myself but I'm sure if you posted a message someone may be able to point you in the right direction. Margaret

Hi Margaret, Thanks so much, that is another piece of the jig saw in place, is there any site i could go on to find old newspaper articles perhaps of his death, i have put names in 'google' but nothing came up, i wondered if Helens father was in the forces as the children were all born in Gibralter. Thanks June.

Hi Robert Martin 60 (who was born in Lochgilphead Catherine 55 Catherine 31 Ann Louise 28 Margaret 15 Robert J 22 There is also another daughter who's name I cannot read This is as well as Helen and her son. You won't be able to get a death certificate because civil registration in Scotland did not start until 1855. They seem to be quite well off though so maybe there would be a will or a burial record somewhere. Margaret

Hi June Have found Helen and her son on 1851 census in Cathcart Glasgow along with the Martin family and she is shown as a widow then. If her husband died before 1855 in Scotland I'm afraid there won't be a death certificate. Margaret

MarionfromScotland Report 27 Mar 2006 17:08

Was she in Scotland in 1871? If so you will get the 1851/61 census on Scotlandsdspeople. I think it is Ann from Scotland who is offering Lanarkshire 1861 census, I will see if I can find it for you. Marion

Hi, Just looked at the 1871 and it looks like 'W' but there are lines going through, 1881 she was down as 'W' on the 1891 she was 'Head'. June.

Can I suggest you try to first find them as a couple on censuses? Maybe Scottish censuses on Scotlandpeople website before 1871. Suzanne

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me, i have been looking for the death of John Hutton Paull for quite a while, he was married to Helen Martin 28th.April 1835 Gorbals Glasgow. I have found Helen's death 1898 in Sussex, and believe John died some years before, i was wondering if he died in Scotland and if anyone could do a look up for me. Thanks. June.
