Sylvia, when I find a hot match, I send a message to the person, in it I give a few details of the people who are linked with match where I can e.g. a couple of siblings, the parents, year of birth and area, and then I ask if we have a link. Sometimes I get a reply saying no its not a match, other times more details that link in with that person. The most frustrating one was a short while ago where the person said yes we definitely have a link and that was the sum total of their reply, I emailed back and hopefully will get a reply again sometime! I dont let the people see my tree unless there is a link and I ask if I can see their tree if there is a link, I also ask if I am able to use any of their information on my tree. I am quite happy for people to use my infromation. I have linked up with cousins and second cousins this way, some of whom didnt know I existed and I didnt know they did! Hope this helps a bit.
