Glen In Tinsel Knickers

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 25 Apr 2006 10:11

Hi Gwyneth I haven't looked at that,George has been put to one side for a while. In the 1881 (pre marriage to my g g/m) he lives with his father George, his son via first marriage also called George and a cousin called George!Yep 4xGeorge Chambers in one house. On the later census he changes his place and date of birth,by 5 years but remains in the same house. I did have a possible birth from the first marriage and think i have that marriage. Not to worry, something might turn up one day,but Chambers in Lincoln(shire) are ten a penny. Glen

Are any of these people named in the Will of an older generation? eg. Did George, father of Edward Charles leave a Will in which grandchildren are named? Gwyn

That was my feeling too, plus thee are twins in that line and twins occur with his sister (my gran) and from one of her sons as well. Maybe a bit of a stretch, but coincidence nonetheless. The age old problem with my tree, plenty from 1901 back, all census and birth /marriage certs, just can't jump towards the present day. Thanks for your ideas and suggestions Glen

Glen I know this dosen't confirm anything for you but I would be leaning more towards the Scarborough marriage for no other reason than they names 2 of their children George & Martha & Edwards parents were George & Martha. Georgina.

Gotcha. My gut feeling - and it sounds like yours too - is that your rellie married Laura. The only way you are likely to progress before the 1911 census appears is if you can find any children of either marriage and pump them like mad for names of aunts and uncles, birthday books, address books, photos etc. Look to see if any of the children were baptised where the grandparents lived. Check newspapers for write ups of golden weddings etc.

The 'two' grooms have different occupations, but the Fathers details are the same. In the 1901 they both appear in the same parish/district with parents and siblings, but the place of birth for one (not mine) is only given as Lincolnshire. I can only find my definate ancestor in the 1891. Glen

Two men with the same name, same occupation, same father's name, same father's occupation, living fairly close to each other (but not presumably in the same village). One entry on 1901 and 1891 census. Just how close did they live to each other? Is there any possibility that it is one man with two families?

There are two Laura Scarborough entries on GR,one tree owner replied it isn't his tree!the other hasn't replied. I don't know of any living rellies, and as the marriage certs are identical except for the brides details then i'm stuck where to try looking. I know one links into the Fox family near Caenby Corner,(marriage of Lauras' sister). But despite looking at those and contacting someone from that family they came unstuck at the same place, working present day backwards,we can't split the two Edwards. If you have access to Kew, it might be worth looking to see if WW1 records survive. If both men were there, a little extra detail might help you. Have you looked on the commonwealth wargaves site for deaths? Is nobody alive who might remember the man? Can you find both on 1901? Have you the stamina to trawl through deaths, to see if you can pick up either of them?

It's grannys brother,i have the direct line back several generations, now i'm trying to work sideways post 1901,but it is my birth family. A half brother and sister and a 1st cousin i have found didn't even know the names for grandparents. It looks like this line will stop for a while. Thanks everyone. Glen

Glen if this is your family it may be easier tracing backwards from your parents through birth's & marriages. Georgina.

From Birth cert Edward Charles Chambers 30/08/1889, 9 Moor St Lincoln Father George Chambers Mother Martha Thorbon Chambers(nee Elmer) I have him in the 1891 and the 1901 (1901 mistranscribed as Gresham on search, but family on Gresham St,and entered as Chambers on image) Full age would be a slight porkie pie for the 1909 marriage, but i really don't know. Glen you need to give us a relative's name and year of birth who you are sure of so we can trace backwards. Georgina.

Hi Edward Chambers To Edith M Dickenson Lincoln 7a 775 Jan/Mar 1914 Edward Charles Chambers to Laura Scarborough Lincoln 7a 1061 Jul/Sep 1909 Father is George Chambers,Mother is Martha Chambers (nee Elmer) Possible births 1909 birth for George Edward Chambers (maiden name of mother unknown) 1910 John Chambers (maiden name of mother unknown) Births with maiden names 1914 Leslie (via Dickenson) 1915 Robert (via Dickenson) 1917 Ida (via Dickenson) 1911 Martha (via Scarborough) 1915 Alfred (via Scarborough) 1916 Alice (via Scarborough) 1917 Frederick and George (twins via Scarborough) 1918 Dera (via Scarborough) The births via the Scarborough maiden name do appear in the family elsewhere except for Dera, various uncles/aunts and g/parents share the christian names, but that is the only thing that makes me favour one over the other. Birth name is Edward Charles, but who knows how to tell which might be the right one. Glen

Hi Jess yeah it's 1914/1915 I have the birth cert,so i know the parents, and i have the brides names and have births with the brides maiden names. I just can't separate the two from the marriage certs, and they don't appear on IGI or World Tree or on GR. Basically the certs are identical except for the brides, even the same church as the sisters' wedding. I think these are going to be a brickwall. Glen

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 24 Apr 2006 12:18

I have two marriage certs for a male rellie, but don't know which (if either) are correct Both show the correct name, and both show father with the name it should be and both show father as a labourer. Both also show age as full (which should be correct). I have 10 births for the marriages in subsequent years,so how can i tell if either one may be for my rellie. The witness names don't help either. A sister to this fellow has her cert with her age bless her,but everything else is as above. Struggling. Glen
