Reggie - thanks for that - it could be the reason. Is there any where I can view these records elsewhere or are they GONE?

Are they the only ones Reggie, cos Im blowed if I can find the Horsteads who should be in either Stepney or Wapping. Ive tired first name searches and just about everything. Its so annoying as their cousins are in Shoreditch on there.

Perhaps the J could be mis-read as a 'T'. I had that problem in reverse with some of my Tennet ancestors - they were transcribed as 'Jennet' and even 'Tennch' It sometimes helps if you can see the original record for yourself rather than rely on someone else's transcription.

She became LUCY SMITH DAVENPORT in Dec 1850 Kensington 3 288 and she married WILLIAM c1819 born in Shepperton, Middx Have every census for them when married but just 1841 me struggling with. Not sure if any other kids.

Got this from google if any help St Martin-in-the-Fields is a Church of England church at the north east corner of Trafalgar Square in the City of Westminster, London Looked on 1851 & 1st Lucy Johnson I came across was 'son'!!!! Presume you have found her marriage in Kensington in 1850. Sorry no joy in 1841 :-(

Are you sure Lucy's father was only 12 when she was born? Incidentally, I think the christening was at St Martin in the Fields....not necessarily the birth Reg

Have you tried a part surname with wildcard? - ''John*'' After that, it's imagining what a J could look like in script to someone who's not good at script. Christine

have you looked under Smith I had some who in 1841 and 1851 where Smiths which was their other name as i think it was double barrel but in 1861 dropped the Smith Jeanette

Searched no surname and all its coming up with is unreadable stuff but still looking!! Helen if only it was as simple as Johnston :O(

Hi Pink I also have rellies called Johnson, but have found some of them under Johnston occasionally.
