I agree, it's good and easy to use. If your rellies were born in the North Riding/Middlesbrough area of Yorkshire, Tees Valley Indexes are brilliant and you can make queries by e-mail. Pity about the name though ....... :-( Jack

Not much transcribed for the East Riding yet though. It tends to be the major cities. I did offer once but they'd had a flood at the time! Maybe I should try again. Seriously though, if you do fancy offering your services as a transcriber, it's dead easy. I used to do it for the Leeds RO. Jeanette x

Hi Betty It would seem that there is provision for those indexes to be added, but it doesn't appear that anyone is transcribing anything for North Yorkshire at the moment Jeanette x

Do you know of anyone who has taken to the Tees Valley designation, Kathleen? As far as I'm concerned, Normanby will always be part of the North Riding whatever 'they' decide to call it! And I presume those north of the river think they live in Co Durham? Jack

I hate Tees Valley too. I was born in Redcar, North Yorkshire. I still live in the same house that I was born in and I have lost count of the counties I have lived in - Teesside, Cleveland, Langbaurgh, now Tees Valley. Dianne xx ps - If you have ancestors in Yorkshire, there are quite a lot of Parish Records for Yorkshire on Ancestry. I have been on Ancestry 2 years and have only just discovered them. I have suddenly got the family tree back to the 1500's. Well worth a look, although not all parishes are on.

If I turned my toes up tomorrow, my death cert should officially say : Place of birth - Normanby, Redcar and Cleveland. Now that's worrying....

I live in Billingham, and although I would like to be back in Co. Durham again, I just use Teesside, and I don't care what everyone else calls it!!! And the airport will always be Teesside Airport to us. I can't imagine how much they spent on all the new road signs to promote the 'Teess Valley' myth. p.s. I actually live in Oxfordshire at the moment although in a village that was Berkshire pre-1974! LOL Normanby is still 'home' though and most of my family are still there. Jack

Can you imagine how we felt living in Humberside then! Even on this iste in the drop down menu when you're doing your tree, GR have Humberside and not East Yorkshire. I emailed them pointing out that all of my ancestors were born in E. Yorks and that Humberside only existed as a county for twenty-odd years. Their response? Well you don't have to use the drop down menu! Slightly missing the point I feel! Grrrrrrrrr

I still work in the old Ridings system, Jeanette - as far as I'm concerned, it's East, North or West. Can't cope with old East Riding places which are now in North Yorkshire. Jay

Jeanette I feel exactly the same. I was born and have always lived in north Lincolnshire but GR insists I live in the hated Humberside. I have found you can override the 'drop down menu' and type in the correct county, which I always do. I also emailed GR a few weeks ago and they said they were aware of the problem but they didn't say they were going to correct it!! I don't suppose they'll bother. Jennie

I was born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire and as far as I am concerned I still live in Yorkshire.....as someone said we have been Teesside - then Cleveland and because I moved to Marske I lived in Langbaurgh...now...I don't know ....my post code is TS (Teesside) but we are being marketed as 'the Tees Valley'....what valley - I see no valley. They have even changed the name of our airport - it is now 'Durham -Tees Valley'. As far as I can see it we are an area in the north east of England with no identity - we have been legislated out of existence. Christine

I've lived in Canada for the past 54 years but I was born in Middlesbrough which was in Yorkshire at the time. I'm proud to call myself a Yorkshireman and tell people that I was born in Yorkshire. I guess that's not really true anymore, so I don't know what to call myself. Margaret
