i've got a richard roberts b/ 1818 who married sarah pope from northaw herts. i have him and his family on the `1851 census but on the 1861, 1871 1881census he's not there. his last child was born 1857, so i persumedthat he'd died but i cant find him anywherei've looked from 1857 up to 1861would anyone have any ideas thanks hazel

Not wishing to cast aspersions on Mrs Roberts, but could the last kid(s) be someone elses? What I mean is could he have died before the last child was conceived? Do you have the last kiddies birth cert? Only the other day we had one where the father had died before the child was born. Did you have a quick look through 55/56 for a death.

But he may have died before the child was born? Or she may have met someone after he died? Ive got a similar one on the go at the moment where last child born 1840 and finally found 'dad' dying 1838 (and they didnt have freezers then!). Best of luck, hubby screaming for his dinner. I have just realised that an 1851 death is before the last lot of children, but at age 33, it is correct for someone born in 1818 Those last two children could have been illegit. Are there christenings on the IGI? Linda
