In 1901 there is a DINES family living in Little Bedwyn, the next village to Bagshot, it is possible Henry and Jane DINES are Rose's parents. RG13; Piece: 1125; Folio: 55 Jennifer

F.C thankyou. i will have a look at the image aswell. if billett is her married name then there is a good chance that rose dines mother is marys sister. i say this because i found an abraham billett marriage to a mary smith. and rose dines mothers maiden name was smith!! susie

nell ive ordered the marriage cert so i'll let you know what the outcome is lol susie

Unknown Report 27 Jul 2006 14:19

William and Mary's marriage cert would state if Mary had been married before, confirm her maiden name and hopefully give both fathers which might make it easier to find her in 1851 and thus her family in 1841 with any possible siblings. nell

They are proving very elusive on previous censuses and baptism records. I can see why you are baffled.

1901 for ref General shop, Kintbury, Berks. William Bowles 50 farmer & shopkeeper. Newbury, Berks. Mary Bowles 60 Florence Westall 22 shop asst b. Kintbury Rose Dines 13 scholar b Bagshot Wilts. Florence wouldn't have been legally adopted as this only occurred after 1927. But she may have been an orphan girl they took in with a view to her helping in the shop. She was born in the same village as the shop, so unless you have rellies of William and Mary in the same village, I wouldn't assume a family connection. nell

In 1881 Florence is with her grand parents, I suspect she is the daughter of Alice WESTALL aged 17, also living with them. RG11; Piece: 1273; Folio: 35; Page: 31; Jennifer

According to the info you have, Mary was 10 years older than her husband, so its possible she was married before. Rose could be the daughter of either Mary or her husband's sisters. I will see what I can sniff out. nell
