Hi Hazel, what was your grandmothers name and when was she born? Will take a look for you. Have you checked the full BMD index not just FreeBMD? Keith

Are you certain of the birth year then? Where did you get it from? Was it from a census?

Lady Cutie Report 19 Oct 2006 18:40

i ve got her marrrage cert which gives her age as 21yrs she married in 1897which would make her born in 1876 /77 ive looked all the way back to 1874 and forward to 1879 hazel.

KeithInFujairah

KeithInFujairah Report 19 Oct 2006 18:45

She could be younger then, if she gave the wrong age to get married younger. Have just checked 1876-78 and cannot find her or any Christine Loft being born anywhere

She could have been one of the many that never got registered, is registered only locally, (so record is at local office), or was only baptised. Or perhaps adopted a different name. Bob

Lady Cutie Report 19 Oct 2006 19:08

BobClayton Report 19 Oct 2006 19:15

Yes Hazel but registration is not with the GRO it's with the local registrar, a staggering amount of records NEVER reached the GRO. This is fact . Someone on here said they have six in their tree alone ( Old Crone?). Even after 1875 some were not registered. Bob
