Thank you all for your interest. I spoke to my mother today and she told me that the family 'saga' is that Jane and William meet while working for the same employer. He was to have been the servant who helped to dress? his master. As I do not live in an english speaking country, I do not know what one would call him. I have a feeling my mother or grandmother may have got the 'Nice' bit wrong. I will try to find one of them in the 1881 census. Astrid |
