The birth cert tells us that Alice had not been married before she married George so that we neen a marriage of George Wheeldon to Alice Talbot. I have checked the full indexes from the 1901 census to Albert's birth and there is no such marriage then - so they should be married on the 1901 census. There are three George Wheeldons with wife Alice on the 1901 one married to Alice Jane living in Melton Mowbray is a confectioner's assistant so I think we discount him secondlyone living in Buxton is a slater's labourer and the one already found living Tutbury who is awaggoner on farm. Considering that two years after this you want the family in Tutbury and George being agricultural then it has to be the last one. The only family of Wheeldons living in Tutbury in 1901 were George and Alice so I think this has to be the family. I would get the marriage cert of George and Alice to get her parents. In due course I would look for the deaths of George and Alice - do you know where and can you or any of your family narrow down the range for their deaths? Otherwise it could be a long job finding them. I

Sorry think I've added to the confusion. What I think we have as facts 1. George Wheeldon and Alice Talbot produce Sunbeam's dad the parents between them (either separately or together) had children Charlotte, William (old enough to die in the war), Elizabeth, George and John. 2. A George Wheeldon married an Alice Talbot in 1892 3. A George (43) and Alice Wheeldon (30) are on the 1901 census with children Charlotte, Willie, Lizzie, George and John. 4. A George Wheeldon born same place and same age appears on the 1891 with wife Ellen and children include Charlotte born similar time to one on the 1901. 5. A Joseph and Alice Talbot have a daughter Alice in 1878 in Abbots Bromley. 6. A Joseph and Alice Talbot are on the census in Abbots Bromley in 1881 and in Colton in 1891 but there is no sign of a daughter Alice. However, there is gap of 5 years between their eldest two children. 7. An Alice Talbot dies aged 0 in 1878 in the Uttoxeter area - which covers Abbots Bromley 8. Charles and Rebecca Talbot have a daughter Alice Hannah reg Jun qtr of 1871 born Abbots Bromley according to the census My assumptions 1. The George Wheeldon married to Ellen is the one who marries Alice Talbot in 1892 and appears with her on the 1901 census 2. Joseph and Alice Talbot's daughter Alice dies. If I am wrong and she doesn't die then I do not believe she is the one with this George Wheeldon in the 1901 as she would only be 22 and she says she is 30 3. George Wheeldon marries Charles and Rebecca's daughter. If we could find a death for George and/or Alice we would be able to see if the ages tied in with those in 1901. Hope this makes sense.

I have lost the plot! Alice is supposed to be married to George by 1901 census , isnt she?

Hi Sunbeam Having looked back over all these posts I would think that the George and Alice married in 1892 are likely to be correct. What profession does it give for George on your father's birth cert? Does it tie in with this George? I have found an Alice Talbot who dies aged 0 in the Uttoxeter area in 1878 - I wonder if that is the daughter of Joseph and Alice - it would fit the gap in their family. Have you any idea when your father's parents died? If we could find the death registration it would give an age. Andrea

I'm afraid that, as far as I can see, thereis no Alice from this marriage unless she is born after 1901.
