How to find a birth when all I have is a marriage?

Trying to find birth/death records for Robert Penny c1764 from Somerset. I know he married Ann Horler on 21st Sept 1795 in Radstock, no mention of parents or birth on marriage cert. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks

Hi, there wouldnt be a marriage certificate that early - not til after Sept 1837. The only thing you can do is check the parish registers and pray he married in the same parish as he was born - and then work backwards looking for him. Good luck.

You could find the record in the records office - not everything gets transcribed onto the IGI. We went to Huntingdon Record Office on Friday and found lots of the Lamb family which were not given in the IGI - the registers hadn't been fully transcribed. So there is hope for you! While you are there search the wills - I find that they tie families up very well in the absence of census returns.
