Hi can anyone give me a few tips on how to get hold of a birth certificate or evidence of birth I am unable to track down a birth Certificate for My Great Grandfather Frederick John Pack born in 1891 i have checked the 1901 census and have found out he was born in Cowplain. He had other brothers and sisters who have all been registered - i have exhausted all the birth records without success can anyone advise me or give me tips on what to do next Thanks Claire

The Isle of Wight has a good website of BMD's. That one for Frederick John Peck in 1891 gives other surname as Gibbs. (It's usually mother's maiden name) I just google 'isle of wight births' to find website. Margaret

Ah, but when you look at the original, Georgina, the name is Pack.

I would look for a possible baptism. Records will be in Winchester at the Hampshire Record Office. I'm not sure if Cowplain had it's own church, or whether you'd find it under Catherington parish. Gwyn

Could this be the death registration of Frederick's father? Deaths Sep 1892 Pack William 26 Portsea 2b 260 Maybe William was ill and the registration of birth was overlooked.....or may be it is on the local index but never made it to the master GRO copy. I would guess that after she was widowed, Alice returned to her home area, Titchfield, and married again near there.
