A brilliant person on FamilyTree Forum just flagged this one up - oh oh - 5 wills on there of mine - and no fee to download. http://www.norfolksources.norfolk.gov.uk/

Hi Heather I've had a look and found some Macks on there. Do you know if you can magnify the images at all? Jeannie

Oh yes, if you click on the name up comes a thumbnail and you click on that and can control its size so you can sit there reading it - Ive saved a lot of mine to read later.

A great resource. I have cropped each single page of the image(double spread) and then imported into Word, which helps make my copies easier to read. Their feed-back is tremendous - the central part of one of my wills was missing. I e-mailed the ICT dept and within an hour the problem was sorted and I was able to view and download the missing bit. Another tip - the index also brings up wills with other surnames where a person of the 'search name' was an executor. This can confirm family relationships, especially through marriage. Jay

Yes I was really stunned when I saw how much info there is on there and all for free! As you say, a few teething probs, some of my pages were duplicated but still wonderful resource for us with Norfolk ancestors.

There is also a very comprehensive section on trade directories for Norfolk - many more than you can access through Historical directories. Jay

Heather I was so disappointed - I've put in all my lead names one by one and come up with nothing. Mind you I didn't expect anything from the numerous ag.labs but did hope that maybe a publican or two in my tree would show up on the site. Oh well, nothing's meant to be easy! Jo

Jo, not being insulting here, but did you tick the box for Probate as I didnt when I first went on and then realised it was searching for something else?

Janet in Yorkshire

Janet in Yorkshire Report 3 Jun 2007 22:25

Jo, at present they only have a small selection of Norfolk wills for this time span, depending on which court the wills were proved in. We are hoping that, gradually, more will be added. Never despair of ag labs - I found wills for 2 of mine in the collection! Jay

Quite right Heather, I had just noticed that myself when I went back into the site. I've now ticked the box and have started the search again. Still no luck but I promise to let you know if I hit gold. Jo.

Janet I'll not give up hope on the ag.labs. Thanks for the encouragement. Jo

The brilliant thing is you can read them instantly - no paying out £3.50 for a download like on NA and then finding its just a bloke with the same name!
