Mhairi Queen of Scots

Mhairi Queen of Scots Report 10 Jun 2007 21:43

Hey Zoe Is Ethel direct family ie would you be looking at getting her birth cert sometime in the near future? It just that i dont want you to be spending money that could be spent on something else. Brief 'how to' of Scotlandspeople 1) Register and when it askes you how you would like to view the certs pick Java or the other one but not direct download (that never seems to work for some reason) 2) Purchase 30 credits (top right of the screen beside your name) - 'need more' 3) After thats all finished scroll down the page and in the pink box click on Births 1855-1906 4) Type in Wilson (surname), Ethel (leave out the Mary) and put the years at 1900 - 1900 (since you have her birth date) 5) Click 'search' and it will tell you how many hits there was. If more than 25 (over one page) narrow it down the district. In this case is Fife 6) Click search again. 7) Click View and you will e told this will cost you a credit. Click ok 8) Find Ethel Wilson in the district of Carnock and click view (this will cost you 5 credits) 9) View the cert I hope those instructions are simple enough, if you use them Mhairi

I would bet she worked on the production line. As one of the major employers in Paisley, you would reasonably expect some kind of history to be held at the local records office in Paisley. Robertsons had factories in other places (Droylsden for instance) but Paisley is the most likely. Maybe the first thing would be to find Ethel living in Paisley in the 1920's?

Zoe

Zoe Report 10 Jun 2007 20:56

Ethel married Frederick Wilson in Kent, and she was a Wilson before marriage. She died in 1971, in Kent.

Clive Report 10 Jun 2007 20:37

Try the records offices for school records. Do you know when and where she married or when and to whom she married (if she married)? If you live in the right area visits to local records office or library may show her up in electorail roll, telephone directory, parent of child starting school, etc. CB

Robertson Jam & Marmalade Robertson's is a leading brand of Jam and Marmalade in the UK. The brand's most famous product is 'Golden Shred Marmalade'. Known as the 'The World's best marmalade', Golden Shred is the fastest-selling preserve in the UK. James Robertson was a grocer in Paisley, Scotland, who was persuaded to buy a barrel of bitter oranges. When sales were slow, James' wife Marion made the oranges into a batch of marmalade and 'Golden Shred' was born. In 1864 'Robertson's' was founded. Marmalade was originally produced at the back of the shop, but soon a factory was set up to meet increased demand, and jam and mincemeat were added to the catalogue. Robertson's has had a Royal Warrant since 1933, this means the British royal family use the products. Found this on google but nothing with your Ethel name search combined with Robinson jam
