Would it be on her death cert? It is on Scottish ones anyway. Marion

If you find the birth certificate of one of her children it will have her maiden name on it. Kath. x

I am stuck on one branch of my family because in the 1901 census my great grandmother was shown as Matilda Wood - Widow. How can I trace back from this? The previous census was too far back - her surname would not have been Wood then. I have no record of her husband. Any ideas?

Or on her childrens birth certs.

Her husband's name would also be on any child's birth certificate: another good reason for buying it. Once you have those details, you can think about finding marriage details for them.
