Hi, If anyone could help find a marriage between Thomas Grant & Elizabeth Smith I would be grateful. In the 1871 census they are down as living in Comet St, Cardiff, man and wife including two children. RG10; Piece: 5367; Folio: 71; Page: 23 I have their daughters birth certificate for 1872 giving the same address and confirming the mothers maiden name as Smith. I just cannot find the marriage entry. Their first child was born in 1869 so possibly married around that date. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks Paul

Hi Pam, Many thanks for your reply and offer of help. Their ages change as you go through the census years. Thomas about 1843 and Elizabeth around 1848 although at times their ages are shown as only 1 year out. Once again many thanks for your time. Bye Paul

Hi, That's always a possibility but if she was born around say 1845 then that would make her 25-26 by the time the 1871 census took place. Her first child was born around 1869. It does look like it's her first marriage but as I said you cannot always be certain. Thanks Paul

Wonder if this is Elizabeth in 1851 - she's a little older than she should be but Boverton and Llantwit Major come up as places of birth on later censuses. Name: Elizabeth Smith Age: 9 Estimated birth year: abt 1842 Relation: Daughter Father's name: Anthony Mother's name: Sarah Gender: Female Where born: Baveston, Glamorgan, Wales (Boverton) Civil Parish or Township: Llantwit Major County/Island: Glamorgan Country: Wales Street address: View image Condition as to marriage: View image Occupation: View image Disability: View image Registration district: Bridgend Sub-registration district: Maesteg ED, institution, or vessel: 15a Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 3 Household Members: Name Age Anthony Smith 43 Tanner journeyman Anthony Smith 3 Elizabeth Smith 9 John Smith 16 Tanner apprentice Mary Ann Smith 19 Sarah Smith 42 Sarah Smith 14 William Sprague 67 lodger Tanner journeyman Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 2461; Folio: 425; Page: 11; GSU roll: 104206-104208. The eldest three Smiths are all born Bedminster, Somerset I wonder if the Sarah Williams who is visiting in 1871 is her sister - she is 5 years older and born Llantwit Not any help with her marriage but she is old enough to have been married before.

Hi All, Look what happens when you turn your back to go for a bath. Well done with tracing Elizabeth Smith. The place names are Boverton and Llantwitmajor both in Mid Glamorgan, a few miles apart. I'll take some time to read through your replies and see where they take me. Many thanks to you all. Paul
