Andrea is right - first cousin once removed! Do a google search under 'chart for determining relationships' you will find a very useful table you can use to work out how you are related to someone. There's a copy in my family tree research folder! :-) |

First cousin once removed is right. Your mother's first cousin's child would be your second cousin. Regards Stan |

Oooops, I misread the question. Yes it is 1st cousin once removed. Her children would be your 2nd cousins. |

What I do is write down Mum Cousin Me Child 1 Child x Child 2 The first level are fist cousins, the 2nd level are 2nd cousins, 3rd level are 3rd cousins. When there is one step in level between the 2 people, e.g. Cousin and me, then it is once removed. 2 steps eg Cousin and child x is first cousin twice removed. Between Me and Child 2 would be 2nd cousin once removed. Hope you can understand what I mean. |

Its a nightmare trying to fix it in your mind, whatever way works for you!!!! The tables you can find just require that you identify a common ancestor of the two people concerned - not too bad if you're looking at a copy of your family tree :-) |

Thelma you're welcome! It's nice to be able to 'return the favour' for someone - i posted a question earlier about a couple of dead ends I'd come across and within a few mins several people with time on their hands and subscriptions to ancestry sites started posting suggestions!!!! |
