Thelma you're welcome! It's nice to be able to 'return the favour' for someone - i posted a question earlier about a couple of dead ends I'd come across and within a few mins several people with time on their hands and subscriptions to ancestry sites started posting suggestions!!!!

Its a nightmare trying to fix it in your mind, whatever way works for you!!!! The tables you can find just require that you identify a common ancestor of the two people concerned - not too bad if you're looking at a copy of your family tree :-)

What I do is write down Mum Cousin Me Child 1 Child x Child 2 The first level are fist cousins, the 2nd level are 2nd cousins, 3rd level are 3rd cousins. When there is one step in level between the 2 people, e.g. Cousin and me, then it is once removed. 2 steps eg Cousin and child x is first cousin twice removed. Between Me and Child 2 would be 2nd cousin once removed. Hope you can understand what I mean.

Oooops, I misread the question. Yes it is 1st cousin once removed. Her children would be your 2nd cousins.

First cousin once removed is right. Your mother's first cousin's child would be your second cousin. Regards Stan

Andrea is right - first cousin once removed! Do a google search under 'chart for determining relationships' you will find a very useful table you can use to work out how you are related to someone. There's a copy in my family tree research folder! :-)
