Hi Shirley, There is a Sutton in Ashfield, which was certainly in the heart of the Nottinghamshire coal mining industry, but what's the context? Chris |

Shirley if it is near Birmingham then it's Sutton Coldfield, you could try contacting the Sutton Coldfield Observer, it's a free paper that is posted to most houses in the area. As far as I know it has never been called Sutton in Coldfield? Georgina. |

Thanks for your info, but Sutton in Coalfield in 1958 was a place, think it is now Sutton Coldfield, Had a friend named Winnie Swan who lived there then, was trying to find a weekly newspaper I could put a trying to find message in, as I dont know her married name Shirley |

Sutton Coldfield has always been known by that name - it is first mentioned in the Doomsday Book and later became a Royal Town in Warwickshire. Its is now classed as a part of Birmingham although Sutton residents still class themselves as being a stand alone town. |
