Sutton Coldfield has always been known by that name - it is first mentioned in the Doomsday Book and later became a Royal Town in Warwickshire. Its is now classed as a part of Birmingham although Sutton residents still class themselves as being a stand alone town.

Shirley if it is near Birmingham then it's Sutton Coldfield, you could try contacting the Sutton Coldfield Observer, it's a free paper that is posted to most houses in the area. As far as I know it has never been called Sutton in Coldfield? Georgina.

Hi Shirley, There is a Sutton in Ashfield, which was certainly in the heart of the Nottinghamshire coal mining industry, but what's the context? Chris
