Hello could anyone tell me how to find out if a divorce took place between 1934 and 1954? as my grandfather remarried in 1954 when as far as I can find out he was not divorced from my grandma. |

The 1954 marriage cert should say whether or not the groom's first marriage had been dissolved. |

What is his status on his 1954 marriage certificate? If Widower, & as his first wife was still alive, then he may have entered a bigamous marriage. |

Hi Thank you to everyone for the information. However I do not have a copy of the marriage certificate in 1954 so would not know George Hobbs status, I just wondered if it was allowed for a marriage to take place when the first wife was in a Mental Institution? Mnay thanks Julie |

They obviously 'married' in 1942 - then 'married' again after Bessie's legal husband died. |
