I can't find a Margaret, but there is a Sarah Elizabeth, registered Wrexham, March Qtr 1868, Vol 11b, page 339, which is a possible.

Good luck.

You would find the same info on an English birth cert in 1865 as you would now.

Marriage certs tended to have "Full age" or "Minor" instead of the actual age

Death Certs did'nt add date of birth until 1969....just age at death which both could be wrong as they only went by what the informant knew

Thankyou Reggie...will have to send for his birth cert,to find mother. He is the youngest child(at least on the 1871 census)
Could you please tell me what information is on the cert in 1865?(I have Irish Certs and they have dob.,child's name.place of birth.,mothers mmn.,fathers name and occ. and who reg. birth...are English ones the same back then?)
I know John Williams' father is John William Kelly,shoemaker....this was shown when he married for the second time,as a widower.
So maybe I WOULD be better with the birth Cert.

I wondered about Margaret too!
Either she was b illigitimately, with another father, then JW married her mother,or she belonged to JW & E,and was b before the married.
He would have been round 18 when she born and round 19 when he married,if marriage in 1859 is correct one(i could only find that one, even looking on 3 diff sites)

Nothing to do with rounding....which happened only in 1841.

You have to remember that the transcribed YOB is estimated, based on the declared age

And censuses are taken in the first half of the year...........................

1871 census was taken 2nd April, so Elizabeth's birth was between 3rd April 1836 and 2nd April 1837

I knew you'd found 1871.......I posted it for INFO, as I stated..................... because you had given different birth year info for both of them

Elaine

Elaine Report 3 Jun 2013 16:41

crossed wires..i meant i found 1871 census.

why would you say 1836 for Elizabeth? Is it to do with rounding ages down in censuses?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 3 Jun 2013 16:37

Whose child was Margaret?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 3 Jun 2013 16:36

Just looked at North Wales BMD, but they haven't tied up the pairings of the marriages

I can tell you that they married in the Register Office...........so Parish registers will not be available

Elaine

Elaine Report 3 Jun 2013 16:29

thats what i found too.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 3 Jun 2013 16:28

More like 1836 for Elizabeth......................if age is accurate

Elaine

Elaine Report 3 Jun 2013 16:27

Oh..I forgot about that Reggie! Thnx for reminding me!
At least on 1871,its showing E as 2 yrs older than JW,so she must have been b.c1838 logically :-S

The other possible solution is to look for both females in the census immediately preceding the marriage................cross-refer ages and birthplaces

Or if all else fails invest £9.25 in the marriage cert

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 3 Jun 2013 16:22

As there were no penalties until 1875 for not registering births, don't be too surprised if you can't find anything

And, in any case, you can't use MMN to look for births until after 1911

Elaine

Elaine Report 3 Jun 2013 16:14

think i might have to....have them in Broughton.,Wrexham,in 1871 Census.
My gtgt grandad Thomas Kelly was born Llangollen, but lived in Broughton...both men ended up in Wigan, where a sister,Sarah Jane was with John William and family in 1911 census.

I am looking for other children and to find a connection between em,to see are they related to me....thought it would be easier to find births if i had mmn.

I think you might have to buy one of the children's birth certs. to find out which one is right.

Elaine Report 3 Jun 2013 15:50

LOL Shirley..they DO!
PP..they're in Wales!
John William Kelly b c1840 in Denbighshire married either Elizabeth Evans or Elizabeth Stockton....the other man is Thomas Hannaby.

the weird thing is....my mums maiden name was Evans, and my maiden name was Stockton! Strange..lol

Also, If the marriage can be found on Local registry office site such as Durham online or Cheshire bmd then you often get more info for example on the Durham site matches brides and grooms before 1911
