Oh, that's bad, that Ted has Michael in his tree.

It sounds like he doesn't even know Michael, so he certainly doesn't have his permission to put him in his tree!

But you see, Michael, how searching trees -- and putting names in your own tree so people can find *you* -- is what this site is best for, and the first thing you should do here.

Then you contact the members you find that way ...

Micheal Edward

ok thank you so much info to look over etc

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 21 May 2011 23:34

No, you can't view his tree. You can only view other people's trees if you ask them and they allow it.

You have to **contact him** as already described -- you click on the "Find out more" button beside his name and send him a message.

Never send a message just asking to view somebody's tree, of course. Explain that the person in his tree is your father and you are really hoping to meet other people in his family and get to know more about your family.

Michael Edward, are you following the advice?

Click on Search Trees, the button up near the top of this page.

Search for what I said.

surname REFFOLD
born in KENT
born in 1942 plus-or-minus 10 years

All the names you will see are Edward's brothers and sisters.

Then you click on "Find out more" beside the name of the "Tree owner".

I was mistaken about who that might be earlier; it seems the person is related to Edward's mother (as Rose had already said). The tree owner may not know anything about Edward's brothers and sisters. But the first thing you need to do is ask.

I was just about to say that ;) -- nine children in total. Edward had eight brothers and sisters.

He was born in the mid-1930s. Perhaps times were very hard and they did place him and maybe other children with Barnardo's.

You should contact Barnardo's as suggested at the beginning of the thread to ask.

But first, if you search family trees here at GenesReunited as Rose suggested, for

surname Reffold
born in Kent
1942 +/- 10 years

you will find that the same person she mentioned has several of those children in their tree, and is probably one of those children themself.

That person is who you should contact, if you don't already know the person.

It could even be that the person with those names in their tree is hoping to get in touch with families of their brothers and sisters, if the children were split up at young ages.

Looks like he had a lot of siblings, some of whom are probably still alive.

So he may have been orphaned or his parents couldn't care for him.

Do we definitely have the right person -- the person who died in Kent in 1997?

His parents lived to old ages:

Name: Mary Evelyn Reffold

Michael,

It's really looking as though that story isn't correct. His parents were still alive into the 1970s and 1980s.

Oops, I got passed by there.

Michael Edward, you are the one who called your thread "barnodo's child", and we assumed you meant Barnardo's.

Why did *you* say that??

Barnardo's was an organization that maintained homes for orphaned children or children whose parents could not care for them.
