Its raining here now - little bit warmer for a change

Its one of those days where we still have no emails at work - what did we do before they existed - seems like the whole of our working life revolves around them.

I have quite enough to do without them sending emails either.

We seem to be Frank & Robert less at the moment as well missing Evelyn. Its nice to be so busy & so popular in your socal life & so miss out on joining us here.

Wonder how Sue is - Hope she is ok in our cold & wet world over here -

Well back to the slave driven area - as it is I am on hold to BA in my lunch break, as it takes so long to get through to a person - just to ask a question

February 2 is known as Groundhog Day in the US and Canada ................ folklore says that if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, it will leave the burrow, signifying that winter will soon end. If on the other hand, it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, and winter will continue for six more weeks



The forecast for tomorrow here in Vancovuer is ................ sunny


BUT the eastern US and eastern Canada are facing what might be the worst winter storm ever



England does have a similar saying:-

I need a lay down!! I have been struggling since Saturday with my ISP and it's driving me nuts!! Haven't been able to read my emails for almost a week - wonder what I'm missing......??

Anyway, I hope to be finally reconnected in 14 days rather than 5 weeks as it seems I was given duff info the first time round.........arrrghhh.

Meanwhile, I am reliant on this little dongle to keep me in touch with you all.

Well it was wet - but now - just grey & chilly

Off out tonight - girlies night out - first time since July - so loads to talk about - it will be nice to meet up again.

We have our work emails back only 114 on there - just to keep me busy.

The sun is out here & a little warmer - quite nice for February and a lovely send off for Sue's aunty - Its never nice but I always think its so much better if the sun is out.

We have lost the emails again - terrific.

So glad to see that the cyclone in Queensland didn't claim any lives, altough it did sooooo much damage.

We stayed on a plantation near Tully back in 1976. It was run by the parents of a friend we had made in Melbourne. We've lsot touch with them all now, but do hope that things are OK



Where J lives apparently got 30-35 cm snow YESTERDAY as that snowstorm that has hit the eastern US so hard barrelled its way through eastern Canada.


She only said in an email on Tuesday that M was fed up with shovelling snow ............... he'd got up at 5 am that morning to shovel so that she could get out of the house and go to work. So she had called their yard man (the one who mows grass in the summer), and he'd put them on his list for snow clearing.

Good decision eh?


She was also going to take some work home with her, in case she couldn't get in to the office!

I too hope that everything has gone well with Sue and her family during this last week. It will be good to have her back here.


I also hope that the snow that Sylvia's daughter is experiences stays over there and doesn't decide to visit the UK...........noooooo. Wise girl to call in the garden man.


Ven. Robert, I trust your little shell is well anchored down in this weather. We don't want you blown out to sea - much too cold for you.


So, what's with Frank these days? We need a tekkie on here now and again...........he does have his uses.........sometimes. Maybe the ferret is playing up.

I haven't been able to access my emails for over a week and it's likely to be another couple before I can do so. I do miss them I must admit. Well, you never know who's going to be sending an interesting message do you?


Very overcast and dull here today. I don't think we had the high winds which were forecast or, if we did, I didn't hear them :))

Hello Everyone.
thought I would pop in to let you know I am still alive and kicking Have been at the Eye Clinic all the afternoon with Ron, he has a recurrence of the Iritis that seems to be the bain of his life, poor man must be fed up with it by now, however its lucky that it is treatable though it cannot be cured, though can disappear on its own, so fingers crossed.
We have very strong winds here today, just as well that I have some fat on my bones or I might have got blown away.
Looking forward to April as Viv tells me that the Scottish 1911 Census will be published then and maybe we will be able to trace my mothers roots.
Have got some nice Sirloin steak for tea so must go and cook it so cheerio for now take care everone.

What a week we've had up here in the north with lashings of rain interspersed with howling gales and yes I was even blown clean off my motorcycle despite hanging on for dear life with the bike leaning at an angle of 45* into the wind.
I wasn't even moving but the gust just grew stronger until it finally flipped the bike right over and me with it........... OUCH !
Mind you, I am well padded ### artificially I might add #### so you just bounce along down the road without hurting any more than your pride.
Thankfully two guys in the car behind got out in the pouring rain to help me lift the bike, but as I was at the traffic lights they wouldn't have been going anyware if they had not helped.

It really is exhausting trying to drive a motorbike in those conditions, not like sitting in a little heated box as you trundle home listening to Take That ;)

Of course that's almost summer up here .....................

Aye Frank -- the joys of living in Scotland and yes I DO miss it.

Indeed Robert but Newcastle also has it's moments as in the late 80s I can recall taking an early morning delivery from Livingstone to South Shields.
Heading for the east coast I had to turn back because of snow, ending up going via Carlisle and the A66 which was dodgy but at least it had been ploughed and gritted.

That was an important tender which had to get through and this was before the internet and all the modern technology that we now tend to take for granted.

............ Take That had not been invented or even born ;)

I'm sorry to hear that you got blown of your bike Frank, but glad to hear you are still in one piece.

We too, have had a week of gale force northerly 's but instead of rain we have had heat showers and mist interspersed with sun and very high humidity.

This weekend Wellington was 'Party Central' as the City again hosted the New Zealand International 'SEVENS RUGBY CUP'

The following from our Main Newspaper described it best.

'Girl Scouts sidled up to Dominoes, Ninjas danced with Chickens- and there may have been a few games of Rugby played , somewhere.

For The thousands of Fans who piled into the Westpac Stadium in Wellington for the start of the 2 day NZI Sevens yesterday it was really more about what you where wearing.

Since a few people decided to wear costumes back to the first matches in 2001 it has grown to biggest fancy dress party ever with tickets selling out as soon as they go on sale and groups of friends, familys work colleagues deciding to dress up in the most imaginative way possible, and each year coming up with something new.
The stock standard Naughty Nurses, Doctors, clowns, fairies [usually males in wigs and tutus]
Super heroes, scifi characters, cowboys, cops and pirates are also joined by Smurfs, Angels,robots.
Last year Saddam Husseins, and Darf Vader's where popular.
This year the Pope Attended as well as plenty of Nuns and Monks.
The Large groups many from other parts of NZ are the most amazing going to a lot of trouble designing their costumes and even wearing them
on their flights to Wellington.

They had to bring in some dress rules a couple of years ago when someone showed up as 'Borat' in his bikini. Also they banned entrance to anyone carrying weapons so all the cops and Pirates now can only carry brightly coloured or cardboard weapons that do not look real.

People start partying on the Friday and whole city is awash with those that could not get tickets but still dress up and join up with the fans for the all night parties in a lot of Bars and in the streets around the central city over the weekend.

New Zealand won which went down very well with the crowd.
Oldies like me keep clear of the City on weekends like this.

Have just heard tonight on the news that Brushfires are raging in Perth the other end of Australia to the flooding in Queensland. Am hoping they are nowhere near where Susan lives.

Poor Frank, fancy ending up in the road like that...how unpleasant for you - padded or not! Glad to know that you weren't hurt apart from your dignity. Apparently a similar thing happened to my OH long before I knew him - so I have to believe you - don't I.....:))


We seem to have had a milder version of the wind and rain but it does sound a bit gusty outside at the moment. Just as long as we don't get the dreaded white stuff.


Hi Evelyn and Josie, lovely to hear from you again. Poor Ron does have some probs with his eye doesn't he? Glad it is treatable though. I had forgotten about the Scottish census coming out so thanks for reminding me. I may be able to find out what happened to some of OH's relatives who remained north of the border. Hope the steak was delicious - I'm sure it was.


Josie, I thought the people here were mad about Rugby, but their enthusiasm pales into insignificance with what you describe. Imagine them on their flights in some of those costumes.......!!!

I wonder what we would all dress up in if we were going to a similar thing?
I can see Frank as Braveheart.....naturally, complete with woollen socks and his Sunday best sporran.

Ven. Robert may appear as a shy sea creature with a shell on his back. He could always disappear back into it if the noise became too much for him.

Sylvia would, of course, be Wonder Woman in those red high heels of hers - if her back is better naturally!

Hello My dear Friends

I am now back at my sisters in Yorkshire,the Funerall went really well but it was so sad and heartbreaking for everyone.

I stayed down in Gloucestershire with ny sister for a few days to catch up with everyone .

I fly home again on Friday morning so will be back to normal by Sunday,I did handle the flight really well

It was a bit of a shock to step out of Manchester airport minus 2 from 38 c and now I have to do the reverse to go home ,really missing the OH and my own bed.

Thankyou all for your kind thoughts ,it means a lot and I shall be in touch when I can.

How lovely to hear from you Sue and what a relief to know that everything went well at the funeral. I imagine all your relatives and friends were delighted to see you despite the sad occasion.


Whereabouts in Yorkshire does your sister live? The cold certainly will have been a shock for your system after the heat of home.....hopefully things will warm up here soon. It's blowing a gale at the moment.

Sue - so pleased all went as well as it could - Yorkshire weather would have been a bit of a shock - Bit too far for me to pop over for some moral support.

Robert - i don't believe all this - you shy - i remember you & Evelyn at one of our famous parties.

I think we all need to cheer ourselves up - how about a Royal Wedding party (not exactly a street party as such) Its a good excuse for us all to be together again - at least we have a day off in the UK - personally i think they could have picked a better month so we could have had a better holiday schedule - Too many Bank holidays all in one week - its not good for us. Why didn't they pick July & we could have had another break.

Do Canada, australia & New Zealand get a day off as well as you are all part of the commonwealth?

Well better get back to my sandwich & yogurt
