Yes thats Emily and Albert Pickin living with the Carter family, but there is a mistake in that it says she is Thomas Carter's daughter and Albert is their son-in -law.
Emily's parents were Henry Severy GAGE and wife Susan. I have no idea why they are there and named so, My grandmother Florence was born a few months later at 1 wapping High street at the Scots arms pub and later in a month or two they moved in with Albert's parents in Odessa Road ,Forest gate to live with them. Yet another mystery.

Thankyou for all the info . You have been a fantastic help.Thankyou to you all

So sorry to confuse things. yes that is the Pickin family on 1911 census. You did well to find that I have been searching for ages under the names Pickin and picken. I never thought of such a simple thing as Peckin. Thankyou for that.

i WILL GET BACK TO ANCESTRY FOR MORE DELVING .....

Pleasse be more careful about the information you give . You gave the impression Emily was there in 1901. Also the Neale family are not there in 1901.

Might this be Emily and Ethel?

Donna Report 14 Mar 2010 18:16

Sorry to have been away from this a while, but went to visit my mum being mothers day and all that and also my daughters birthday.

Back now!
Yes 1901 census is correct.Arthur Robert Neale b 1900 and siblings George, James,Rose,Annie,Laura and John. Parents Thoms Neale and mother Rosina Huggett 1870-1904.
Arthur Neale the youngest child married Ethel Winifred Pickin in 1922.
Her mother Emily Pickin is listed as beer retailer of 32 Cyprus Street in 1921 in directories. This could have been a miss print as 52 is the duke of wellington pub. Obviously this is how Arthur and Ethel met over the bar top!!!!I can picture it now.
Arthur was a coal man but later him and Ethel went into the pub trade also and the Pickins ran several pubs around London at different times.
Arthur and Ethel got their license taken off them in 194os for after hours drinking-shame of it. Ben Harris had it put in his name for them and worked with them as Ethel had terminal cancer.
Arthur went back to Cyprus st and his neighbours were Bil Harris and his wife and daughter Ann. Bill's sister lived next door to them.
I also have Harris family in Romford and several photos ,but we don't know who they are. We think they are connected to Arthur and Cyprus street.

Hope that gives an insight. Thankyou

Yes and the information you have given is very fragmented.

Could you start by giving me what you know about one person.
full name
where born
approximate age
parents mames
siblings names (Full names not nicknames)
If you have any certificates what you know from there.
So far I have not been able to find a family with all of the details correct.

Donna

Donna Report 14 Mar 2010 15:59

There is a connection to the Cole family found.

The Neale family children went to live with The Cole family at some point years later and Arthur Neale was a coalman also. Worked for them.

Yes there is a connection. Wow exciting stuff. Maybe getting somewhere now. The Harris family are connected to my family in someway. There are lots of family photos of different HARRIS FAMILY MEMBERS, but can't find the connection just yet on how they fit in. Older family members memories are not what they used to be so information is very fragmented.

I have just looked through the whole street and there is not a Harris family living there 1901.
Ehy do you think they will be there then as that is a long gap from 1901 to 1914? Have you tried 1911?

Donna

Donna Report 14 Mar 2010 15:30

This Harris family lived on Cyprus street for many years. My connection of is with the Neale family who lived down the street at number 88. We have a sid and Ben Harris so just trying to fit C J Harris into the family. coincidence that all these Harris lived on same street. Also have my great grandmother at 32 a beer retailer.

Thanks for the info. Very helpful.
