How to order birth cert if dob not known

Going back to the original question, I would just add that the GRO rule for supplying dob for births up to 50 years relates only to orders submitted over the Internet. This was introduced as a fraud protection measure.

If you have a genuine reason to require a certificate then ring them up and explain the circumstances, or as suggested, contact the local Register Office.

I have emailed Durham registry office and explained why we would like his birth cert. If I get no joy from them then his sister will ring GRO.
