I have an ancestor in the 1841 census shown as "born in foreign parts". I have reason to believe that he came from Germany/Prussia. Are there any records available that would show details of his emigration to England of departure from his place of birth?

There may be records at Kew in the National Archives if they were naturalised as British or tried to. Worth adding their names on here so people can look them up.

i have the same problem with German ancestors ,in this case it was my paternal grandfather b c1870 . the first time the family show is with the birth in 1889 of a son in Bradford Yorkshire,
I have done extensive searches trying to find where he and the family came from and when but have been told that there are no passenger records as they would have come as foot passengers from Germany so no records would be kept.
Have been to the National Archives trying to find them BUT although they show on the 1891census and the 1901 census as born Germany British Subjects they didnt take Naturalization. Was told by an expert at the National Archives that they are aware of the problem!! the enumerator on being told born Germany would ask something like"are you entitled to be here? and would get the answer "YES" so would put British Subject,but this wasnt always the case and they would still be German Nationals

No consolation to you i know but i have the same problem looking for some of my Ancestors who came here from Germany in the 1870s,still looking after 3 years for any records of them in Germany or arriving in the UK.
Could pay for a researcher in Germany but cost is prohibitive.

The person I am researching is shown as William Bemmir in the 1841 census, born about 1792 "in foreign parts". Original name may have been Wilhelm Behmer or something similar.

I had a look at the National Archives "Catalogue". The only similar name that I could find in the Naturalisations was a William Behr from Prussia, but the date was 1861, probably too late to be your man.

I will be going to Kew next Thursday and could look out his papers if interested.

Yes Christine the 1911 census is her. Cook for a german family. I am looking to find where in Germany she came from.... born c 1882 father Wilhelm Lehmann (From Marriage cert.1914) That is all I know of her background....... Oh yes... Family always claimed she came from Austria.!!
I cannot find her in 1901 so am assuming she came to england between then & 1907 when her daughter was born.
