Johnathon I have looked again at the cert. of birth for william and yes you are correct it is Seaside Lane, Easington. the S and D are written quite similar. I have looked at the site for workhouses and will see were this takes me.

Thank you all for your help, I certainly appreciate it.

Both parents had died by 1911. Could be she was in a workhouse.

Hilda's in an institution in Middlesbrough.

Just re-reading this & see you've put the address he was born.

I've never heard of Deaside Lane but know there's a Seaside Lane at Easington.

I'm guessing he was born at the hospital/infirmary, you can read about it on here

http://www.workhouses.org.uk/

The council offices are now on the site of the workhouse/hospital.

So the Genes member questions the marriage you found to Barbara Straughan not the family in 1901?

Johnathon

Johnathon Report 17 Apr 2009 18:04

This could be Isabella's (born 1906) marriage

Marriages Sep 1930
Langlands Isabella Pickering Sedgefield 10a 431
Pickering Stanley Langlands Sedgefield 10a 431

Easington boarders Sedgefield

Johnathon

Johnathon Report 17 Apr 2009 17:58

She'd be very young but this could be her birth

Births Jun 1906
Langlands Isabella Easington 10a 511

Jinet Report 17 Apr 2009 17:58

This is the family I matched with my Isabella, the mothers name is given as Barbara, I looked up the marriage for R.T langlands and Barbara and got a match Dec 1884 Easington. However the genes member has informed me that this barbara Straughan is incorrect. I dont really know how to resolve this at all

William Langlands was born 18 Sept 1920 1 Deaside Lane, Easington.
I have found Isabella Langlands in the 1901 England Census as born in 1898 Easington, Durham to parents Robinson Taylor Langlands and Barbara.
Although this is the only census she appears in I have search all other census's back to 1841 which the entire family appear, the first born son using the same name.
Sorry not comp literate as to post info
I truly appreciate any help or advice on this

Johnathon

Johnathon Report 17 Apr 2009 17:42

So that means she was unmarried & Langlands (at that time) was her surname & maiden name.

If you post the details we'll se what we can find

K

K Report 17 Apr 2009 17:41

I don't think there is a certain way of verfiying this except by doing as you are doing, working through the options, checking the census and eliminating those that don't fit.

Have you found her in the census working as a servant by any chance at the time her son was born?

Jinet

Jinet Report 17 Apr 2009 17:36

In the box marked, name, surname and maiden surname of mother all that is given is Isabella Langlands - domestic servant it also states that the informant to the birth was her landlord

Johnathon

Johnathon Report 17 Apr 2009 17:32

If i've read this right then only Isabella is named on the cert? If she is then Langlands is her maiden name.
