I am looking to purchase a Gateshead Marriage certificate as on the birth certificate of their daughter it states married 28/12/1878. However when I check on the Gateshead site for applying for marriages it comes up with nil searches.

Any suggestions where else I can purchase this certificate to further my reasearch.

What are the names? I'll look for the GRO ref for you.

search for the two names

get the information, including the last two numbers after the place name ....... these is the GRO referencenumber


Go to www.gro.gov.uk

click on Ordering (or Buying) Certificates Online

fill out the form

answer yes when asked if you have the GRO reference number




Never pay any more than £7

Thanks for your help, My computer has been playing up the last 10 days, I contact Gateshead direct and paid £7 I just got certificate in this morning.

The certificate is not the correct one.
Father of bride is not the same as one on her death certificate so, there must have been 2 mariages for the same names.

I have wasted £7 on the wrong marriage, but never mind I will just need to locate the correct one

Scottish death certificates show names of parents and who she was married to. On death certificate is sttes parents as John and Ann Anderson, but on the marriage certificate I received from Gateshead it says fathers name as William Anderson

Have you found her on the census with her parents?

What was her name and her husbands?

Hannah Anderson married William Rodgers in 1878 Gateshead, Hannah died in Scotland 1905 aged 44


Hannahs parents were John Anderson Coal Miner
Ann surname unknown

The marriage was in the 3rd qtr so not Dec.

I`ve got to wonder how accurate the informant`s info is on the d.rego if they didn`t know her mum`s MS. What relationship was the informant?

I ordered the one in Septemeber but it was wrong

With regards not knowing the morthers maiden name it was Hannah's husband the son in law who was giving details of his wifes parents and both were deceased

It seems highly unlikely that there would be 2 marriages with the same names in the same area so close together.

Their daughter Mary Ann Rogers was born in 13 Govan Street, Blantyre, in 1891. Does it say where the other children were born

I cannot find them on the 1881 census

All the children were born in England, no area given.

William is a coal miner. Does that occupation tie in with the marriage cert?

Robert Hannah is a boarder, no relation.

On the marriage certificate for Hannah Anderson it states that her fathers name was William Anderson and she 22 and living at Church St

I haven't been able to pin either of them down before marriage.

Can you post all the details from the marriage cert.

Williams age and father's name and the witnesses as they may help.

I also think it must be the correct marriage cert.

If her death had been registered in England they don't give parents names so you probably wouldn't have thought you had the wrong marriage.
