Hi all, I have found a relative on IGI who is listed as Thomas Lay 1776 born Sininton Berkshire. I have googled it to no avail. I was wondering if anyone out there can give me any info on the place. Thanks in advance Alex

G'day Rose, Yes it was user submitted, which is making me doubt its veracity. Cheers Alex
|
Thanks Richard, If you can find a marriage record for Thomas linking him to Ann Whitely in 1792 in Cassington Oxfordshire that would be brilliant. How close is Bucklebury to Cassington. Cheers Alex
|
Sorry then it looks like the wrong thomas lay, it looks like that thomas married in bucklebury.

Alex
Bucklebury lies between the M4 and A4 ( Theale to Chieveley), Cassington is north west of Oxford.

How about 'Sindlesham' for Sininton - it's near Wokingham.
Berks FHS have good records - join them and ask.

Marriage 27 June 1791 at Cassington (Oxon) Thomas LAY Ann WHITLEY of Sinington Berks
Cannot find a Sinington but will ask around ! Think it must be Cassington ?
Here is Ann's baptism
05 Oct 1766-Ann d Robert Whitley---no mother given and it is the only Whitley baptism !
Thomas and Ann had quite a few children do you want those too (I have the P/R transcripts) ?
There are no LAY baptisms at Cassington before 1792
|
Thanks Elizabeth, I have Ann's baptism and the marriage data as well as their children. Trying to find info on Thomas has been my trouble. I guess I just have to keep trying. Cheers Alex
|
There's a Sinnington in North Yorkshire.
|
Yes , but the P/R transcript says Sinington Berks
|
Alex
Do you think this is your Thomas Lay ?
Baptism 08 Apr 1764-Thomas LAY s Richard & Mary at Handborough
Handborough is an ajoining parish to Cassington and there are LOTs of LAYs going back to the late 1500s.
I see in the "Search" section there are others with this Thomas in their tree !
If you think he is yours I can maybe help further as I have the Handborough P/R transcripts.
|
I think it is Shenington , East of Shipston on Stour and West of Banbury, this is far more sensible than a Yorkshire lass being in Berkshire. Margaret Rose.
|
G'day Margaret & Elizabeth, Thank you very much for your help. The Handborough Lay could be a possibility because I think from memory that on the marriage record it has Ann from Berks but no place listed for Thomas. Shenington could also be a possibility. This hobby can be so confusing!!!!! Alex
