help with Family tree maker 2009

hubby (bless him) just got me family tree maker 2009. My tree at present is on GR and Ancestry . Please can one of you experts tell me how to tranfer my tree to a file that I can transfer to FTM. I am a technophobe and dont know where to start I dont know how transfer a tree from Ancestry into a file. Also Which type of file. Regards Debs |

Hi Dippy Debbie, I bought it for myself. It is rubbish in my view, but give it a try. You need to first save your tree in the current version of FTM as a GEDCOM file. Go to File, Export File, Entire File and choose "gedcom" as the "save as file type". The Gedcom option is generally at the bottom of the list of file types. Save it to your hard-drive in a suitable folder - mine is called GEDCOMs, and give it a suitable name, e.g. GEDCOM Feb 2nd 2009. Save it also to a CD or memory stick, I prefer the CD. You should be doing this regularly anyway in case of crashes. |

If I am reading this correctly then I assume that you don't have FTM already, so Margaret's instructions are not quite what you need. |
