Please can any one help me
I have been searching for my great grandfather but can't find anything on him in any Census records.
His name was Orris Ratcliffe
D.O.B- 1893
D.O.D- 1969

Hi Stacey,

Do you have any idea where he was born? Are you sure his name wasn't HORACE?

If he was born in 1893 he would only appear on the 1901 census.

My Gran says his name was Orris and said he was born in Blackburn and that he had a sister called May.

That is great thank you so much I haven't been able to find his marriage but that is the 1 as that my great grans surname.
Also I don't know his parents name I don't think my gran can remember them either. Sorry.

1918...Orris married Margaret Ferguson MacKay at the Methodist Chapel, Penwortham Bridge....you will also find his birth entered.

Found them on Ancestry UK 1901 census, next census available is 1911 release due in 2011

I think the family Tom found looks interesting as on the Lancashire bmd website Orris's birth was registered in Darwen.

The next census available is 1911 but due to the 100 year closure it won't be available till 2011/12....I can't wait!!

I think many libraries in the UK subscribe to Ancestry, and I believe the local records office holds images of their censuses.
BMD certs can be purchased thru the GRO in Southport, or, in this case, thru the local registers office in Blackburn (most likely, although I think there may a few local ROs who don't issue certs for genealogical purposes).
